Welcome to the Acomb Baptist Church website.
I pray that at this festive time you will be blessed by the real meaning of the season.
It can be summed up in the following words found in the Bible:
'Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you:
he is Christ the Lord.'
These words are carefully recorded for us by Luke, an early follower of Christ, in the Gospel of Luke chapter 2 and verse 11. The 'town of David' is Bethlehem. This was the birthplace of David, an ancestor of Christ's, who was the second king to rule in Israel. God promised him a descendent who would bring salvation to the world.
This is an amazing story where God Almighty, in his love for you, sent a Saviour. This special person is both God and human. He came to rescue all of humanity from the path it had taken away from God – his Name is Jesus.
As you look at the baby in a manger the shadow of a cross falls over him. He is destined to die a cruel death, a criminal's death at the hands of Roman injustice, the hatred of Jewish religious leaders and the response of the crowd.
Yet his death on the cross, his entering death on behalf of all humanity, was God's plan for the salvation of the world. It is the doorway to forgiveness and eternal life for all who believe and follow.
The reality of this message was confirmed by Christ's resurrection from the dead, three days later, on Easter Sunday morning. Today the risen Christ draws near to you, calling you to follow.
I pray that you will be blessed this Christmas as you draw near to God in faith and put your trust in the Saviour sent for you – Christ the Lord.
With blessing for the season and into 2014,
John and Margaret
