Travelling by Train

York Station is served by direct services from all over the UK from as far afield as Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harrogate, Hull, Inverness, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester (including the Airport), Middlesbrough, Plymouth, Saltburn, Scarborough, Sunderland and with often as little as one change you can reach most destinations in the country - or even Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. Operators are Cross Country (Arriva), Grand Central (an Arriva 'open Access'  operator), LNER (Government owned)Northern (Government owned) and Transpennine Express (First Group). Although 'open access' operator Lumo services (First Group) do go through York on their way between London and Newcastle/Edinburgh, they do not stop.

Poppleton station is, technically the closest; on the circuitous route from York to Leeds (via Knaresborough and Harrogate). It is 2miles away, is not staffed, has no taxi rank and would be two bus journeys to get to the church - so you may find York station more convenient.

You can track progress of your train on-line (using Signal BoxTraksy or Open Time Trains). A certain amount of technical knowledge is required.
